ice fishing 24/25

On Nov. 23 Mike and I put the “Big House” out on Birch Lake. The ice was thinner than I like it to be to drive on so we detached the house from the truck and followed a trail that Jim S. had plowed out to the point on the east side of the lake. We found that the ice was 11 inches thick all the way to the point. It was thinner if you ventured off of the trail Jim had plowed. We plowed it again to encourage more ice to build.

The “Big House” hooked up and ready to go.

I picked up Mike at his house and headed to the lake. The only ice we found thick enough was in water shallower than we usually like to fish, but we put the house in six feet of water anyway to wait for more ice.

We didn’t catch anything huge today but the fish were healthy and colorful.

We caught rainbows, char and king salmon.

Mike with some of the fish we caught.

We caught nineteen fish and kept these for Mike. sixteen and seventeen inch rainbows. Stay tuned for another fishing trip this week

Saturday Nov. 30

On our second trip of the winter, two more of the usual suspects came fishing, my cousin Dianna and buddy Rick.

We all had a good time and caught fish

We caught rainbows, char and a burbot, just under thirty fish in all. The Ice is still just a little thin to go where we want to go so we fished in six feet of water.

Dianna saved seven trout and char for eating that were about 16 inches long. She also kept the 20 inch burbot.

Sun. Dec. 8

Dianna, Nate and I caught 48 fish all together. Three of them were Burbot. Dianna brought home the biggest burbot and the biggest trout. We brought home about twelve of the other nice ones for a Doctor friend of mine. He really enjoys them.

We had a great time with trout, char, kings and burbot.

On Dec 24th, Cole, Dave and I went fishing. We caught about 20 and Cole brought these home.

Rainbow trout in Birch Lake.

The size rainbow we have been catching a lot of.

We are catching a lot of burbot in Birch Lake this year.

On Jan 3 2025 Tony, Noah, Levy, Cammie and I moved the house to 12 feet of water. It was a wise move, we caught 58 fish total. Including these that the Lucas family brought home to eat.

Since my last post, we have been ice fishing twice with veterans and sourdoughs and caught about fifty one fish. Everyone had a great time.
