our last hunt of 2024

Some friends I spent some time north of Sitka fishing and deer hunting from Oct. 3rd to the 16th. The weather was really rough. As it was, we had to shorten the trip by three days in the beginning and four days in the end due to really rough seas. We made it to camp through a window in the weather (six foot seas) and back to Sitka through another one between storms (8 foot seas). While rough, we were quite safe, having taken no risks.

The storms managed to keep us in the cabin for most of the time this trip but through it all we managed to get out some. Here are some highlights of the trip.

A Quill Back Rock Fish

While Rick and I fished with fly rods for lings and rock fish, Cassie and Matt fished conventional.

Two Kimbers and a Tika.

Between gale force winds, we managed to get out for some deer hunting too.

Apparently these two are getting married this summer.

It's really just a little disgusting isn't it?

We did some calling in the woods.

These were stalked on beaches.

Headed out for another day of deer hunting.

We saw a few swimming deer, the deer were moving.

We all pitched in, to clean deer, clean up after vacuum packing, cooking and washing dishes.

Steak, corn and baked pototoe.

Steak and BBQwd corn on the cob.

Fresh biscuits and carrots

My motto is, "If you are suffering, you're doing it wrong" We weren't suffering.

We spent three days cleaning up the boat, working on repairs and getting it ready for next season. We painted the hull after this picture and it was shrink wrapped.

It was agreed, we all had a blast, and we are ready to do it again next year. can’t wait.
